The CONTEMPORARY SECTION “LIFE” is opened by the current article of Professor Andrei Medushevsky: “European integration – mechanisms of interaction”, which is devoted to the search for European identity and competition of models for EU organisation.
“Contemporary Archive” rubric is a digest of most notable world events of today.
The economic essay by Yegor Gaidar “Lessons of the USSR” continues a series of articles by this author on recent past of Russia. The article contains unique documents and witness accounts.
Conversation with President of Latvia Dr.Vaira Vike-Freiberga, provides an opportunity to get acquainted with Latvia of today, find out the opinion of the President on the marriage between Latvia and the EU and to constitute an opinion on the role of intellectuals in Europe.
The materials of the round table entitled “CHINESE FACTOR” touch upon many problems in relations between Russia and its Eastern neighbour.

The special section “TOLERANCE” was prepared together with and with the financial support of the Institute of Tolerance. Levels of understanding and existence of this complex term became the subject of the special section in this issue.

CULTURE
