The poetry section of the issue presents poems by Marina Kudimova, Yevgeny Karasev, Tatyana Bek and Zinaida Palvanova.
We are publishing the narrative “The Merry Funeral” by Ludmila Ulitskaya, chapters from the book “Dovlatov and the neighbourhood” by Alexander Genis and the short narrative “A House on the Riverside” by Andrei Volos which continues the series of his short stories about Tajikistan of nowadays.
The section “Essays of Nowadays” presents the essay “Yugyd Va” by Oleg Larin.
In the section “Far Nearness” writer Vyacheslav Repin who lives in Paris has an interview with Bishop of Washington and San Francisco Vasily (Rodzyanko) on the topic “Lev Tolstoy’s belief and disbelief”. Here we are also publishing the memoirs sketch “A Walk about Moscow with Count Tolstoy” by American translator Isabella Haphood (translation by V. Alexandrov).
The section “Publications and Reports” contains letters by L. Berdyaeva, philosopher N. Berdyaev’s wife, to Ye. Gertsik (publication by T. Zhukovskaya).
In the section “Writer’s Diary” A. Solzhenitsyn continues his “Literary Collection”. The new essay by this Nobel Prize winner deals with the works by Ivan Shmelev.
In the section “Les Essais” we are publishing the notes “In the Russian Style” by Sergei Borovikov.
The section “Literary Criticism” is presented by the polemical reflections “What Is Not Allowed to the Scientist. A Mere Reminder” by Nikita Yeliseyev.
