SUMMARY The poetry section of the issue contains new poems by Ilya Falikov, Leonid Rabichev, Alexander Revich and Sergei Novikov. Prose is presented by the narrative “The Wall” by Anatoly Kim, the short story “The First of the Five” by Andrei Volos concluding his series of short stories about Tajikistan of nowadays and the short stories by Boris Yekimov.
In the section “Philosophy, History, Politics” we are publishing the culturological essay by Yuri Kagramanov on the role of knowledge in history and the reflections “Plato and Atlantida” by Sergei Zhitomirsky.
The section “Far Nearness” presents the memoirs by P. Pertsov about V. Rozanov.
In the section “Writer’s Diary” Alexander Solzhenitsyn continues his “Literary Collection” by the essay “Plunging into Chekhov”.
Literary criticism of the issue is presented by the articles “When? Where? Who?” by Andrei Nemzer on a new novel by V. Makanin and “The Law of Truth” by Alena Zlobina on the debates about Shakespeare.
In the section “Editor’s Mail” we are publishing the polemical letters by the director and an employee of the Pushkin Memorial Estate in Mikhailovskoye about the present situation in the museum.
