SUMMARYThe poetry section of the issue presents poems by Yevgeny Rein, Olesya Nikolaeva, Aleksandr Shatalov and Leonid Grigoryan.
We are publishing short stories by Boris Yekimov, Grigory Petrov, Viktoria Frolova, as well as «Olga», a historical narrative by Yuri Volkov.
In the section «New Translations» we are beginning to publish the novel «Heaven’s My Destination» by Thornton Wilder, translated by A. Gobuzov (to be ended in Nos.3, 4).
In the section «Diaries. Memoirs» we are ending to publish the second book of memoirs by Naum Korzhavin, «In Temptations of the Bloody Epoch» (beginning in No.1).
The section «Philosophy. History. Culture» contains two essays on Russian Euroasianism, one by Pavel Kuznetsov, the other by Dany Savelli (France).
The essay by Igor Zolotussky on Faddei Bulgarin, a Russian man of letters of the 19th century, occupies the section «Writer’s Diary».
The section «Literary Criticism» presents a discussion by Yevgeny Lebedev, Aleksei Purin, Vladislav Kulakov and Mikhail Gasparov on the new anthology of Russian poetry «Strophes of the Century» compiled by Yevgeny Yevtushenko.
In the section «By the Way» Nikita Yeliseev criticizes the notes «Days of the Duma» by writer Yevgeny Tuinov, Deputy of the State Duma.
In the section «Book Review» Marlen Korallov reviews a new novel by Chabua Amiredzhibi; Maya Zlobina writes about a novel, unknown before, by Albert Camus; Alena Zlobina analyzes the prose by French writer Romain Gary; I. Mochalov writes about famous physicist Ya. Frenkel.
In the section «Editor’s Mail» A. Savchenko writes about scientist Lev Gumilev and the years of his being in a concentration camp.
The issue also includes our traditional sections «Bookshelf» and «Periodics».
