SUMMARY
First in issue is an editorial celebrating the 70th anniversary of the “Novy Mir”.
Poetry is represented by poems of Alla Sharapova, Alexey Alyokhin and Elmira Kotlyar.
We are publishing a new novel by prosaist and script-writer Valery Zalotukha, “The Great March For the Liberation of India” — a fantastic account of the Red Army’s failed expedition to establish Soviet power over India.
Mark Kostrov publishes documentary short stories “Muzzle Brakes”, about the postwar life of Soviet officers in Chukotka.
Section “Philosophy. History. Culture” contains a large essay by Yury Kagramanov, “The Empire and Oecumene”.
Section “Publications and Reports” presents letters of academician V. V. Vinogradov to his wife.
In “Literary criticism” there are Sergei Borovikov’s notes “In the Russian Style”.
Section “By the Way” contains polemical notes on realism and post-modernism by critic Pavel Basinsky.
In “Book Review” Anatoly Kuznetsov offers an account of the recent editions on Mikhail Bakhtin, Pavel Basinsky reviews the first volumes of the Russian Writers Dictionary, Andrey Nemzer — the latest book of Natan Eidelman.
“Briefly About Books” includes Yury Kublanovsky’s review of two issues of the new poetry magazine “Arion” and Alexander Andryushkin’s review of the new Armenian-Jewish magazine “Noah”.
As usually, the issue is ended with “Bookshelf”.
