First in the issue are the essays of academician D. S. Likhatchev “Culture as integral system”.
The poetry section is represented by the poems of Alexandre Revitch, Yuri Vinogradov, Igor Kalugin, Eduard Babayev, Leonid Grigoryan, Vladimir Fainberg, Leonard Lavlinsky and Konstantine Vanshenkin.
The new novel by Daniil Granin “Runaway to Russia” is continued (begun in № 7; supposed to be finished in № 9); also “The Story” by Galina Z-ina is published with the foreword by Oleg Chukhontsev.
In the “Publicistics” section there are two articles: Modest Kolerov’s “Introspection of intelligentsia as political philosophy” and Yuliy Shreider’s “Values we choose”.
In the section “Publications and Reports” the new data about the persecution of orthodox clergy selected from the archives by N. N. Pokrovsky and titled “Politbureau and the Church” are published together with the memoirs of A. K. Vinogradov about his meeting with Lev Tolstoy (prepared by Stanislav Aydinyan).
In the “Literary Critics” section the article by Irina Rodnyanskaya “Overcoming of experience, or Twenty Years of Wanderings” about the prose of Andrei Bytov is published.
In the “Books Review” section Alyona Zlobina is reviewing the selection of poems by Anna Barkov; while Marlen Korallov — the book by L. Samoilov “Overturned World” about soviet prisons.
In the “From the Editor’s Post” section Nikolai Slavyansky enters into polemics with the article by Irina Surat on Pushkin (№ 1, 1994).
In the “Briefly about Books” section Oleg Larin is reviewing the first issue of “Live Olden Times” magazine, Victor Berdinsky’s book “Russia and Russians” and also “Archangelsk Region Dictionary”.
In the section “Bookshelf” (compiled by Sergey Kostyrko) — there are lists of new books.
