SUMMARY
The publication of Mikhail Ardov’s book of memoirs, “The Legendary Ordynka” begins in the issue. Among its heroes there are Anna Akhmatova, Mikhail Zoshchenko and other famous as well as less renowned men of letters (to be continued in № 5).
This is followed by a selection of short stories by Grigory Petrov, “This Life of Ours”, and three essays from Andrey Bitov’s book “Eine kleine Arithmetics of the Russian Literature”.
The poetry section presents poems by Semyon Lipkin, Vladimir Kornilov, and a large selection entitled “The Separation of Literature from the State” and including an introduction by Vladislav Kulakov and poems by Galina Andreyeva, Oleg Gritsenko, Stanislav Krasovitsky, Andrey Sergeyev, Valentin Chromov, Leonid Chertkov and Nikolai Shatrov.
The publicistics section contains a study by Dora Sturman (Israel), “In Search of the Universal Con-science (On re-reading “The Landmarks”)”.
In the section “Comments” there is an article by German Andreyev (Germany), “Not Twins but Brothers (The Controversy of the German historians on the nature of Nazism and Communism”).
The section “Echoes of the Past” contains materials titled “The Favourite of Fortune” and including the renowned lawyer A. F. Koni’s memoirs about the poet K. R. (grand duke Konstantin Konstantinovich) and K. R.’s letters to A. F. Koni (publication by Ella Matonina).
The literary critics section contains an article by Ivan Esaulov “The Stars of Satan and the Sacred War: the Modern Novel In the Context of the Russian Spiritual Tradition”.
In the book review section recent books of contemporary literary critics (B. Sarnov, A. Arkhangelsky, V. Novikov, A. Chudakov and others) are discussed by Dmitry Bak in his series of reviews “The Bronze Age of the Russian Criticism”.
