MUSSA AKHMADOV. Wild Pear-Tree Over the Bright River. Long short story. Translated from Chechen.
One doesn’t choose one’s fatherland or one’s people. The protagonist of the story by the well-known Chechen writer Mussa Akhmadov is carrying his burden with dignity, as it benefits a man, without complaining of his fate, remaining free in his choice and not becoming a blind instrument in somebody else’s hands.
NICKOLAY EVDOKIMOV. Happy Cemetery.
Very sad and bitter but pure long short story with the elements of phantasmagoria about some people who came to be at the very bottom of the life, at a refuse dump, but preserved their kindness, trustfulness and ability to love.
EKATERINA KANAYKINA is a voice of today’s young poetry. In her verses she is reflecting on her “etymology” and her relationships with the surrounding reality.
ALEXEI USTIMENKO. Tashkent’s Novel.
Few people remember now who grand duke Nickolay Konstantinovich was. A renegade of the House of Romanovs whom the regal family had been hiding at the back of beyond of the Empire and who, according to one version, was executed by Bolsheviks at Tashkent in 1919. For his contemporaries he was a mystery, a myth and the hero of many risquй scandals. Alexei Ustimenko’s work is about this controversial personality — a madman or an adventurer, cynic, romantic, womanizer, scientist, warrior, organizer of the use of land.
BORIS RUDENKO. Untended.
When in the 1990-s our town and country got full of bare-cut plunderers in leather coats or crimson jackets law-obedient citizens gasped: where have all them come from?! But they haven’t come. They have always been, only now, untended, they began to realize their negative potential reinforcing the ranks of professional criminals.
